RIVERDALE HOME RISES FROM THE ASHES
WITH LIVE-SAVING FIRE SPRINKLERS
After a fatal fire destroyed their home, the Matthews family is rebuilding and making history. Their new home will be the first in Riverdale to be protected with fire sprinklers.
Last year, the Riverdale Village Board closely worked with Fire Chief Robert Scharnhorst, Marilynn Russell and the Riverdale Fire Department to pass a code requiring fire sprinklers in all new construction homes. Elected officials throughout Illinois are recognizing the need for home fire sprinklers because recent studies show that fires in today’s homes can become deadly in as little as three minutes. Riverdale is one of nearly 100 communities in Illinois to provide the ultimate home fire protection for residents.
Having updated codes protects residents, and up-to-date code enforcement is one of the priorities of my administration in order to maintain a safe community.”
– Riverdale Mayor Lawrence Jackson
If there is a fire, only the sprinkler closest to the “fire will activate, not the entire system. That will give the Matthews family time to get out of their
home safely and also will protect the firefighters who respond to the fire.
Congratulations to Riverdale for its commitment to making the community more fire-safe one home at a time – beginning with the Matthews family!
Fire sprinklers are not only available for commercial buildings. They are also available to protect you and your family in your home.
